Belgian Draft
Stella Artois
Belgian Pale
Lager | 5.20% ABV
Stella
Artois pours to a clear pale golden color, well carbonated, with a
beautiful head of rocky white foam. The nose is fairly clean,
predominantly malty, with a touch of grain. The fragrant hops typical
of classic Czech pilsners are also evident, albeit to a lesser extent.
It’s smooth on the palate, light in body, with a light but crisp
carbonated bite. Overall the flavor is on the sweeter side, slightly
fruity, but balanced well by a delicate but sharp hop bitterness and
dryness.
Hoegaarden
Witbier |
4.90% ABV
Belgian
Style ale that's very pale and cloudy in appearance due to it being
unfiltered and the high level of wheat, that's used in the mash. Spiced
with coriander, orange peel and other spices and herbs in the
background. The crispness and slight twang comes from the wheat and the
lively level of carbonation. Sometimes served with a lemon, but if you
truly want to enjoy the untainted subtleties of this style you'll ask
for yours without one. Often referred to as "white beers" (witbieren)
due to the cloudiness / yeast in suspension.
Leffe Blonde
Belgian Pale
Ale | 6.60% ABV
Brilliant
golden orange color with an off-white head. Sweet caramel malts and
fruity esters dominate the nose on this beer. Flavors are bold and full
of toasted malts, dark and tropical fruits, and very faint hops. Very
nicely balanced. In many ways drinks more like a Heffeweisse than a
Belgian Pale. Refreshing and tasty.
Belgian Bottles
Lindemann’s Framboise
Lambic -
Fruit | 4% ABV
In
the case of Fruit Lambics, whole fruits are traditionally added after
spontaneous fermentation has started. Kriek (cherries), Frambroise
(raspberries), Che (peach) and Cassis (black currant) are common
fruits, all producing subtle to intense fruit characters respectively.
Once the fruit is added, the beer is subjected to additional maturation
before bottling. Malt and hop characters are generally low to allow the
fruit to consume the palate. Alcohol content tends to be low.
Orval
Trappist
Belgian Pale
Ale | 6.90% ABV
Golden-amber
in color with a billowing white head, the nose radiates wild herbal
spices and malts This is a well-balanced beer with a slightly more
intense hop profile than many of the Trappist Ales—but with a complex
malt sweetness that makes for an intriguingly complex beer. Look for
notes of wild yeast, spice, orange and banana.
Duvel
Belgian
Strong Pale Ale | 8.50% ABV
This
true classic bursts with fruity, lemony, yeasty scents. Duvel is
clear-gold like a lager, but it’s absolutely full of flavor. Saaz hops
play upon the taste buds, accenting the sweet maltiness and light fruit
flavors. Smooth and creamy with a citrus-wheat finish, it’s one of the
best-crafted Belgian beers. Like a Belgian Pale Ale, the strong
versions will also be pale to golden in color. What sets them apart is
a much higher alcohol content that can range from hidden to spicy to
devastatingly present. Duvel is the quintessential example of this
style, and many others have tried to imitate it with similar references
to the devil.
Westmalle
Trappist
Belgian
Dubbel | 7.00% ABV
The
Belgian Dubbel is a rich malty beer with some spicy / phenolic and mild
alcoholic characteristics. Not as much fruitiness as the Belgian Strong
Dark Ale but some dark fruit aromas and flavors may be present. Mild
hop bitterness with no lingering hop flavors. It may show traits of a
steely caramel flavor from the use of crystal malt or dark candy sugar.
Look for a medium to full body with an expressive carbonation.
Westmalle Dubbel is a dark, reddish-brown Trappist beer with a
secondary fermentation in the bottle. The creamy head has the fragrance
of special malt and leaves an attractive lace pattern in the glass. The
flavour is rich and complex, herby and fruity with a fresh-bitter
finish. It is a balanced quality beer with a soft feel in the mouth and
a long, dry aftertaste.
Saison Dupont
Farmhouse Ale | 6.50% ABV
Saisons
are sturdy farmhouse ale that was traditionally brewed in the winter,
to be consumed throughout the summer months. This is a very complex
style; many are very fruity in the aroma and flavor. Look for earthy
yeast tones, mild to moderate tartness. Lots of spice and with a medium
bitterness. They tend to be semi-dry with many only having touch of
sweetness. The Saison Dupont Belgian Farmhouse Ale from Brasserie Dupont
SPRL in Tourpes, Belgium pours out a hazy, orange-gold in color with a
massive, rocky, white head that hangs around. On the nose aromas of
pear, clove, pepper and musty basement. In the mouth you get a lovely
sweetness at first that carries through the mouth with the addition of
peppery spice, tart fruit, yeast and some herbal tones. Medium bodied.
Nice carbonation. Creamy mouthfeel. Excellent lacing. Quite dry on an
extended finish.
Scaldis
Belgian Special Ale
Belgian
Strong Pale Ale | 12.00% AB
The
high alcoholic strength is achieved naturally by fermenting at higher
than normal temperatures, without resorting to evaporation or freezing
to remove water. To give the beer complexity three different malts are
used in making the beer, including a caramel malt that gives it its
amber color. Unlike most high-strength beers, Scaldis is dry, with a
clean, nutty finish. The brewery recommends serving the beer at about
68-70 degrees. The nose is characterized by sherry, caramel, and
roasted filbert aromas, complemented by some floral, hoppy notes.
Malty, yeasty, and caramel elements come across more strongly at room
temperature, whereas the beer comes across somewhat fruitier when cold
- a touch of green apples and pears. The finish is long and warming,
but remains in balance with the flavors. There is no surprise hit from
the alcohol; the beer is consistent and smooth from start to finish.
Blanche De
Bruxelles
Witbier
| 4.50% ABV
Blanche
de Bruxelles owes its natural cloudiness to the large percentage (40 %)
of wheat that goes into its composition. The natural spice aromas of
coriander and bitter orange peels are added during the brewing process.
The brewing method, which includes infusion, is very slow. The beer,
which is not filtered, is bottled and refermented with yeast and
brewing sugar.
Witkap Pater
Singel
Belgian Pale
Ale | 6.00% ABV
This
Belgian pale ale is light bodied and full of apple citrus, spice and
minerality. A nice foamy head and a touch of acid and cream from this
bottled conditioned beer. A touch acidic, sour, and spicy.
Corsendonk
Pater / Abbey Brown Ale
Dubbel
| 7.50% ABV
The
Abby brown pours a chestnut color. The aroma was mostly a sweet
molasses with hints of chocolate and alcohol. A bold beer with a zesty
spice to it. Very flavorful with caramel/molasses dominating
the
flavor rounded out by a hint of chocolate, spice and a carbonated
effervescence that rolls down your throat. The carbonation places well
in this beer helping to separate the flavors and adding depth and
character to this beer.
Chimay Trappist Grande Réserve (Blue)
Belgian
Strong Dark Ale | 9.00% ABV
Chimay’s strongest at
9% alc. vol. Considered to be the "classic" Chimay ale, it
exhibits a considerable depth of fruity, peppery character. This is a
beer whose fragrance of fresh yeast with a light, flowery rosy touch is
especially pleasant. Smells of sweet malts and dates, figs, black
currants, and a slight alcoholic overtone enlighten the senses. Its
flavor accentuates the pleasant sensations perceived in the aroma,
while revealing a light but pleasant touch of roasted malt. The taste
continues to evolve and develop with a few years of age.
Rochefort Trappist 6
